The Cost of Giving Birth at a Houston Birth Center: Insurance, Payment Plans & More

Choosing a birth center for your delivery is an important decision, and we know that cost plays a big role. At The Addice Birthing & Wellness Center, we strive to make natural, personalized birth experiences as accessible and affordable as possible. Below, we answer some of the most common questions about insurance coverage, payment options, and pricing for birth center care in Houston.

Is The Addice Birthing Center Covered by Insurance?

At The Addice, we are considered out-of-network care, but that doesn’t mean insurance won’t cover a portion of your birth. We provide you with a dedicated billing and payment coordinator who will walk you through the process of potential insurance coverage, verify your benefits, and help you understand what your plan may reimburse. Our goal is to make the process as clear and simple as possible.

What Insurances Cover Birth Centers in Houston?

Many insurance providers offer coverage for birth center births, but the specifics depend on your plan. Some of the common insurers that offer out-of-network benefits for birth center care include:

Major PPO plans
Select HMOs with out-of-network benefits
Medicaid (limited coverage in some cases)

If you’re unsure about your insurance coverage, our team is happy to review your plan and provide guidance.

Do You Accept All Insurance?

Since we are an out-of-network provider, not all insurance plans fully cover birth center services. Some plans may cover prenatal visits, while others may require you to meet a deductible before any reimbursement applies. Our billing coordinator will work with you to determine your options and help you navigate the claims process.

What About Cash Payment & Payment Plans?

For families without insurance or those who prefer to pay out-of-pocket, we offer a self-pay rate that is often more affordable than a hospital birth.

At The Addice, we offer flexible payment plans to make care more accessible:
💰 Your first appointment is $375, with scheduled monthly payments continuing through your 36-week appointment.
💵 Discount for Early Full Payment: Families who pay in full before 20 weeks receive a discount on their total cost.

We also offer additional discounts to help make birth center care even more affordable:
30% off for families under Medicaid coverage
10% off for veterans and active military families

Do You Accept HSA & FSA Payments?

Yes! We accept Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) payments for birth center services. These tax-advantaged accounts can help reduce your out-of-pocket costs for maternity care.

What About Shared Plans?

If you are part of a healthcare cost-sharing program (such as Christian Healthcare Ministries, Samaritan Ministries, or Medi-Share), these plans often reimburse for birth center care. Since each plan has different guidelines, we recommend contacting your provider to understand your benefits. Our team can also provide the necessary documentation to assist with reimbursement.

How Much Does a Houston Birth Center Cost With Insurance?

If your insurance plan includes out-of-network benefits, your out-of-pocket costs will depend on your deductible, co-pays, and reimbursement policies. Some families pay very little after insurance, while others may have higher upfront costs if they haven’t met their deductible. Our billing coordinator will provide you with a detailed estimate based on your insurance plan.

How Much Does a Houston Birth Center Cost Without Insurance?

Without insurance, the cost of a birth center varies based on the level of care you need. On average, full-service birth center care, including prenatal visits, labor and delivery, and postpartum follow-ups, ranges from $5,000 to $8,500—significantly less than the average hospital birth.

Payment plans and financing options are available to help manage costs. With our 30% Medicaid discount and 10% veteran discount, families can receive even more affordable care.
